Yates Heritage Farm is located on 10 acres outside Longmont, in Boulder County, Colorado. We started transitioning hay fields into sustainable perennial food systems in 2015. Our goal is to produce high quality calories with minimal inputs and effort, to feed livestock and ourselves. We also want to make available goods produced from our farm to our community.

Tree crops, focusing on Hard Cider apple tree varieties, with Hazelnuts, Chestnuts and many other North American fruit and nut trees that thrive in our biome. With a transformative alley crop, Industrial Hemp.

Water management, using Yeoman’s Keyline Design with swales to more effectively use irrigation water from our snow capped Rocky Mountains.

Consciously incorporating animals into the niche. Using chickens and pigs to produce necessary fertilizer to support the system.

Producing inputs on farm, creating habitat for beneficial insects, bees, and birds. No pesticides or herbicides are used on the farm. Nutrients are generated from perennial and annual cover crops.

We implement Natural Farming techniques based on Masanobu Fukuoka’s work from “The One-Straw Revolution”. Inspired by Mark Shepard’s “Restoration Agriculture”.
